1.3 ALTERNATES A. Refer to Section 01 23 00 – Alternates for description of work in this Section affected by alternates. B. Approval of alternate manufacturer model is contingent upon use of equivalent material that meets or exceeds all material ratings. Approved alternate models shall also include all components and design features specified herein. C. Requests for approval of alternate manufacturer model, if submitted, must be requested no less than twenty days before the project bid is due.
1.4 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT A. Bicycle storage lockers: measured as completed units and includes furnishing and installing as specified on the plans, complete and in place, along with required mounting hardware, fasteners, signs, and appurtenances. 1.7 DEFINITIONS A. Class I Bicycle Parking Facilities: the highest security type of parking, is a completely enclosed space which protects the bicycle from inclement weather and is designed so an unauthorized person cannot remove bicycle from it. Classification Type I by a Model Bicycle Parking Ordinance under Building Code or Land Use Code is for long term parking device providing the highest level of security bicycle parking facilities. They are provided and developed to meet a tough environment with real security concerns. 1.8 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETING A. If required by Architect or Owner, conduct pre-installation meeting at Project site to comply with requirements in Section 01 33 00 – Pre-Installation Meeting.
1.9 SUBMITTALS FOR REVIEW A. Product Data: for each type of product indicated 1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual storage units and architectural profiles, and finishes. 2. Include rated capacities; shipping, installed, and operating weights; furnished specialties; and accessories.
1.10 SUBMITTALS FOR INFORMATION A. Manufacturer information 1. Submit Manufacturer’s installation instructions. B. Samples 1. Provide one 6 x 8 inch sample of HSMC material from molded top or door panel which exhibits internal ribs and boss detail. 2. Provide samples for selection for each type of finish indicated for units with integrally pigmented factory-applied finish. 3. Provide samples for verification for each type of exposed finish. C. Maintenance Data 1. Provide copy of manufacturer’s maintenance instructions. 2. Operation and Maintenance Manuals to include: a. Recommended methods and frequency for maintaining optimum condition of bicycle locker under anticipated traffic and use conditions. b. Certificate of warranty for bicycle locker listing specific locker registration number(s). c. Hardware data sheets and hardware manufacturer’s warranties. D. Certifications 1. Obtain, from Manufacturer, the following a. Manufacturer certification that the product submitted meets required standards referenced. b. Manufacturer certificate of compliance with current local and federal regulations as it applies to the manufacturing process. c. Written statement on manufacturer’s letterhead certifying that manufacturer complies with requirements of the Contract Documents. E. Sustainable Design Submittals: LEED Submittal. 1. Provide documentation to substantiate implementation of each applicable category of LEED Credits.
1.11 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Products of This Section: Manufactured to ISO 9000 or ISO 14000 certification requirements. B. Manufacturer Qualifications: A company specialized in the manufacture of fiberglass reinforced plastic/SMC composite as specified herein with a minimum of 25 years documented experience and with a record of successful in-service performance for the applications as required for this project. C. Installer Qualifications: An experienced installer who has completed bicycle storage installations similar in material, design, and extent to those indicated and whose work has resulted in construction with a record of successful in-service performance.
1.12 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS A. Conform to Class I Bicycle Parking Facilities requirements.
1.13 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND PROTECTION A. Delivery 1. Deliver materials in original factory furnished packages and containers with seals unbroken and bearing manufacturer’s labels indicating brand name and directions for storage. 2. Each bicycle storage locker should be individually packaged for protection from damage in cardboard containers, clearly marked with project information per manufacturer’s packaging standard. 3. Each carton should contain all fasteners necessary for installation and complete installation instructions. B. Storage 1. Store bicycle storage locker modules in the original cartons as directed on outside of cartons, until ready for installation, to prevent deterioration from moisture, heat, cold, direct sunlight, or other causes.

1.15 WARRANTY A. Manufacturer’s Warranty: Submit a written warranty executed by the manufacturer’s standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of bicycle storage lockers that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following. 1. Structural failures including, but not limited to, excessive top or wall panel deflection, panel delamination, water absorption, surface fiber blooming, spalling, chipping, splitting, cracking, flaking, and blistering. 2. Faulty operation of doors, locks, and access hardware due to poor workmanship. 3. Deterioration of shell materials, metals, finishes, and other materials beyond normal weathering. B. Warranty period: five (5) years from date of receipt per signature for all manufacturer’s components, not including HSMC components. C. Warranty period for failure of HSMC composite material due to corrosion, with exterior coatings intact: fifteen (15) years from date of Substantial Completion. D. Warranty period for locks: Two (2) years from date of Substantial Completion. E. Warranty does not cover improper installation, neglect, or mis-use.

Bicycle Lockers: designed so as to ensure that all lockers are made of durable materials, provide adequate security, have capacity within for storing all conventional bike sizes, are aesthetically pleasing, and are weather and graffiti resistant. B. Fiberglass HSMC top panels provide high mechanical strength and rigidity, high surface quality, reduced heat build-up, and rust or denting resistance. C. Exterior panel systems: bicycle storage locker assemblies designed to interlock in an integrated system to accommodate expansion, dynamic loading and release of loads, and deflection due to external loads, without damage to bicycle storage lockers system or component. D. Design bicycle storage assemblies and provide clearances that will allow for installation tolerances and free unobstructed access to users. E. Assemble units with concealed fasteners or locate fasteners in areas inaccessible when locker units are closed. F. Doors: manufactured to same material standards as the locker body and include recessed tamper proof door jambs. Doors should open and close easily without being forced. G. 2.6 BICYCLE LOCKER FABRICATION A. Doors 1. Material: hot compression molded fibreglass reinforced plastic (HSMC) using polyester resin. 2. Two inch (2”) thick rib reinforced and of flush construction with Top Panel, having no seams or cracks 3. Tolerances: all doors to have equal measurements with a maximum tolerance of +/- 1/32 inch. 4. Internal Reinforcement: continuous with the structure to allow for mounting of specified hardware internally. Material to be completely non-organic with a minimum hinge screw holding value of 656 lbs. Frame screw holding to accommodate screw to be minimum of 1,000 lbs per screw. 5. Hinge Pockets: accurately molded in to facilitate concealed heavy duty continuous piano type hinges at all hinge locations. Hinge fastening through fiberglass FRP door frame solely by aluminum pop-rivet, and without boss reinforcement, is not an acceptable attachment method. B. Tops 1. Material: hot compression molded fibreglass reinforced plastic (HSMC) using polyester resin. 2. Two inch (2”) thick and of flush construction with Door Panel, having no seams or cracks. 3. 2.7 HARDWARE A. Lock Handle: T-Handle (NAMA Vending Standard) Locks with high security removable plug type cylinder lock for T-handle, UL 437 listed to exceed one million cycles operational testing. 1. Key each locker door cylinder separately and supply 3 keys with each. 2. All lock cylinders shall be completely re-keyable to new combinations. 3. Contractor to label door keys with corresponding locker door number. B. Lock Cylinders: pick-resistant, high security type with angled key cuts and rotating disc tumblers as manufactured by Alboy Security Locks, Inc. or approved equal. 1. All cylinders: Underwriter Laboratories Listed (UL 437) standard for key locks 2. All lock cylinders are to incorporate a dual-locking principle consisting of a side-bar mechanism and disc tumbler rotation and elevation. 3. Critical parts of the locking mechanism, pins, shear line, and side bar shall be afforded extra protection from drilling and other forceful attacks by the strategic placement of hardened steel inserts. C. Latch: Full length stainless steel locking bar / latch bar included fixed with concealed fasteners within and designed to capture door jamb and frame from within. D. Furnish locking system in a factory restricted key selection for which uncut keys are not made available from the manufacturer’s factory or any other source by normal distribution methods. All key duplication must be done at the factory or authorized service center upon properly authorized signature. G. Factory shall make available the capability of a minimum of three possible angles of cut on the key blade. All cylinders shall be completely re-keyable to new combinations. The product shall be immediately serviceable on location. H. Locking mechanism established for this project shall be proprietary and the Owner will furnish to the manufacturer, a list of those persons and their signatures, who will be authorized to order additional materials or duplicate keys. 2.10 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL A. Obtain fiberglass HSMC composite bicycle storage lockers and hardware through one source fabricated from a single manufacturer, including fire-rated HSMC vertical and horizontal. B. Hardware and accessories for HSMC composite bicycle lockers as specified in Section 087100 – Door Hardware should be provided and installed by the HSMC composite locker manufacturer. C. Furnish bicycle locker products tested and verified using ASTM, UL, BOCA, Florida Hurricane codes and guidelines. Low V.O.C. structural composite and finishes.
Part 3 Execution
3.1 EXAMINATION A. Section 01 70 00: Verify existing site conditions before starting work. B. Verify that each assembly is complete. Undamaged, and ready for installation. C. Verify dimensions and method of attachment with other work. D. Examine site for slab requirements and location. E. Verify anchorage locations to proceed with installation.
3.2 INSTALLATION A. Install lockers according to Manufacturer’s written instructions. B. Where specified, install lockers on minimum 4 inch- (100mm-) thick concrete slabs, sloped to provide drainage (maximum 2 degrees) per Section 03 30 00. For other improved surfaces, such as asphalt or pavers, contact Manufacturer for alternate installation procedures. C. Where specified, fasten bicycle storage lockers to concrete slab or improved surfaces with 5/16 inch RedHead style expansion anchors (furnished). Set bicycle storage lockers plumb and aligned. Level lockers true to plane with [adjustments to levelling plates] [shims under anchorage]. E. 3.3 ADJUSTING A. Adjust doors, latching bar fastening screws, and hardware to operate smoothly, easily, properly, and without binding. B. Confirm that locks engage accurately and securely without forcing or binding. C. After completing installation, inspect exposed finishes and repair damaged finishes.
3.4 CLEANING A. Sweep all loose debris from lockers after installation and prior to acceptance. B. Power wash lockers. Do not use solvents.
3.5 MAINTENANCE A. Use only materials and procedures recommended or furnished by locker manufacturer. B. Lubricate locker door cylinders and other moving parts per manufacturer instructions on a yearly schedule.
